Review: Hotel Chocolate – All About Mum

Look at that. A very pretty box of chocolates just for me. It even says ‘All about Mum’ on the front just to make it clear who they are for. Not husbands. Not children. Mum.

When I was offered the opportunity to review one of the Mother’s Day range from Hotel Chocolat I had daydreams about sitting on the sofa, feet up, watching a bit of TV with this on my lap. In reality I only had them to myself in the brief time between them plopping through the letterbox and Rich catching sight of them.

“Oh go on, just one”

An echo of “Me one, me one. Please!” from the toddler.

The problem is that it’s pretty much impossible to stop at just one. I’m always impressed with the offerings from Hotel Chocolat and The Sleekster All About Mum Selection was no exception.

They look so pretty. And the range of flavours is impressive. There are the ones that you expect – truffles, pralines and caramels – but also some more unusual additions. The Bison Grass Vodka truffle was one of my particular favourites and was the first one I reached for. A Strawberry and Black Pepper truffle intrigued me and the Soft Chilli Caramel disappeared really rather quickly.

I was pleased to see that a ‘tipple guide’ is included, so you can see at a glance which chocolates have no alcohol in them, a splash or deliver a healthy kick. Ideal for when the toddler is trying to grab and run.

I think most mums would be pleased to receive this on Mother’s Day. Well, not my Mum. She’d prefer some cheese. But it stands that this is a pretty safe bet for making her smile. And you never know, if you’re lucky, she may share.
