Food for a little tum.

Piglet may have issues with sleeping but one thing she’s always been good at is eating!  Right from when she was born she’s had a healthy appetite.  I started off breastfeeding but had to stop for many reasons.  I was disappointed but I knew we had both done our best so had no real qualms about moving over to a bottle.

All I was concerned about was she put on weight quickly.  She was born weighing less than expected (6lb 11oz rather than the predicted 8lb 14oz) and no one could tell me why.  I really had no need to worry.  She dropped very little of her birth weight and put on steadily each week.  She’s now 7 months and weighs a very healthy 20lb’s!

We had to start weaning early, milk just wasn’t satisfying her any more so at 4 and a half months we started introducing her to food.  The health visitor agreed but to be honest I think I would have gone ahead anyway, all the signs were there and I very much believe you should be led by your baby, not necessarily the ‘expert’ guidelines.

She rejected baby rice (I can’t say I blame her, have you tasted that stuff?! Wallpaper paste has more flavour!) but fell in love with mashed bananas and pretty much every type of vegetable we offered.  She loves fresh fruit and now she’s starting to feed herself, she loves nothing more than a bowl of raspberries and strawberries.  She had her first blueberry over the weekend and they have rapidly become a firm favourite.

I think it’s quite obvious that Rich and I both love food and it’s something I really want to bring out in Piglet.  Apart from the obvious no-no’s I encourage her to try pretty much everything and haven’t come across anything yet that she hasn’t liked.  I’m hoping that by giving her a wide range now it will limit the possibility of her being a fussy eater but we’ll just have to wait and see!
